| About Us
Based in Albany on the south coast of WA the Lower Great Southern Community Living Association (LGSCLA) was formed in 1991 and exists as a non-profit independent agency, providing support structures to People with Disabilities and their families to maximise personal well-being, choice and inclusion.
The LGSCLA has a strong commitment to providing a quality values-based service, and the agency believes all people can live in and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive community. The association is also able to provide supports to people who are eligible for Disability Services Commission registration but who may be funded privately.
LGSCLA currently supports in excess of 50 clients, ranging in age from 4 to 70 years, including people with high and multiple support needs; people with sensory, intellectual and cognitive disabilities; people with Autism, and people with physical disabilities including Acquired Brain Injury.
Supports are provided on an individually negotiated basis that fall within the agency's guidelines of service, including:
- Co-resident support
- Daytime and/or overnight support, in or out of home
- Assistance to go out into the local area and/or participate in community activities
- Arranging short stays in holiday accommodation or a support worker's home
- Assisting with continuing education
- Assisting with practical tasks and skill development
Working Together
The person with a disability and their family work with the agency to determine and manage their own supports, which are regularly adjusted according to people's changing lives and needs.
Our clients are involved in all aspects of planning and managing their supports, includes identifying and discussing needs, preparing funding applications, annual planning and reviews, choosing support workers and general decision making.
Accommodation Support
LGSCLA supports People with Disabilities living in a variety of accommodation arrangements. The agency promotes and supports the 'co-residency' model, where a person with a disability and a support worker share a home and living expenses.
Some people supported by the LGSCLA rent or own their own homes. LGSCLA does not own any housing but works closely with Great Southern Community Housing Association that can assist people with their accommodation needs.
